Warehousing
In 1997, Globus International Resources
received funding from the United States Trade and Development Agency to study the
possibility of spearheading the construction of large, refrigerated warehouses in Moscow
and St. Petersburg , Russia . Our results were clear þ there exists both the need
and demand for such facilities not only in Russia , but in other parts of the world, too.
Why is there a need? Russia is a
large importer of food þ the country relies on the U.S. and Europe for much of
their meat and necessities. Many major food companies in the West have desired to meet the
demand for these products, but have been unable to ship and store large enough quantities
of food to make this trade conceivable. Russia , and many other developing economies for
that matter, simply do not have sufficient secure, modern facilities in their
infrastructure to handle these products.
Owning and operating such a facility would
have two major benefits for Globus. Globus would receive a steady flow of income from the
leasing of this space to major food companies from outside of Russia . Demand is so high
that we should have no problem finding sufficient leasers. In addition, such warehouses
would position Globus in the center of massive quantities of trade. It would increase our
exposure and importance among businesses wishing to penetrate the promising Russian
market.
This is no simple process, though, which is
why we have devoted countless hours to this project over several years. We have developed
business plans, met with major government and private investors, worked through the
infamous Russian õred tape,æ and have arranged probable leasers. According to our
estimations, the project would cost approximately $10M USD and would provide Globus with
approximately $3M net profit per year upon completion of the facility. Though it has been
difficult, our progress has been very exciting and we hope to share good news soon!
